Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day

Agencies across the county will come together again on April 10th to take your old or unused household chemicals and properly dispose of them so they don't pollute our environment. The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will take place Saturday, April 10th from 9 am to 3 pm at the Utah Valley University Northwest Parking Area (about 1200 West and 800 South, in Orem). Details can be found at www.UtahCountyHealth.org/hhw or by calling 801-851-7525. Please - household waste only in containers less than 5 gallons -- no commercial waste.

Burn Permits: 1/26/10

Burn permits will be issued starting March 15, 2010 to citizens of Saratoga Springs. Burn season as allowed by Utah County will be from March 15th through April 15th. Burn permits can be obtained from the Saratoga Springs Fire Department at 995 West 1200 North from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Monday through Saturday from March 15th through April 15th. The cost of a permit is $10.00 (no credit cards accepted).

City Council Vacancy: 1/13/10

With the recent election of Mayor Mia B. Love, a vacancy exists on the City of Saratoga Springs City Council. This seat will be filled by appointment of the City Council with a term that expires in December 2011.

In order to be considered for this appointment, qualified applicants must submit a letter of interest and a resume to Lori Yates, City Recorder, by Friday, January 29, 2010. Submissions will be accepted by fax: (801) 766-9794, email: lyates@saratoga-springs.net, or in person or by mail: 1307 North Commerce Drive, Suite 200, Saratoga Springs, Utah 84045.

Qualified applicants must be US Citizens at least 18 years of age, be registered to vote, be current residents of the City of Saratoga Springs and must have resided in the City for at least twelve consecutive months immediately prior to serving on the City Council.

The City Council intends to conduct an initial review of the applicants. Based upon a review of the letters of intent and resumes, the City Council will narrow their selection and choose the top candidates for an interview during a City Council meeting in February.

Westlake High's version of Dancing With the Stars!

Friday and Saturday January 29th and 30th, 2010
7:00 PM both nights (doors open 30 minutes prior for seating)

There are 14 competing dancers from Eagle Mountain and Saratoga Springs. The list of those participating ranges from students, coaches, teachers, policemen, firemen and Mayor Love competing against Mayor Jackson of Eagle Mountain.

Each competitor has been assigned a dance partner from the WHS Varsith Ballroom Team and each dancing couple has been assigned two dances, one latin and one standard dance. The first night the couples will dance for your vote, the second night is the finale.

There are three ways to get tickets for this event:

Happy Holidays! Please note that until Rocky Mountain Power is able to complete its work south of SR-73, the SR-68 project will not be at work in the area. Given this, we will suspend these updates until such time that the contractor is able to come back for final paving. Special notice will be given should any high-impact activity be planned in the interim. Please take a moment to fill out our Post-Construction Survey (See details below).

SR-68 Post Construction Survey

With nine out of ten miles of the project successfully complete, the project team would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of the residents, business owners and commuters for their patience while this new roadway was constructed. The project team is interested in how you feel things went. Your comments help the UDOT team improve service on future projects. The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete and will be available through Monday, January 4.

Due to cold weather conditions and utility delays, the contractor will need to come back to finalize some paving in the spring. Work in the spring should last only a few weeks and have limited impacts.
Rocky Mountain Power still has much of their work remaining south of SR-73 to remove power poles and place new ones. When their poles are moved, SR-68 crews plan to fill the holes, patch the surrounding area and make preparations for the removal of barrels so traffic can flow normally.
Crews continue on several clean up items and final adjustments throughout the project, including driveways, landscaping, fence, placing road signs and reflectors. In order for crews to safely work on these items, some brief access interruptions and lane shifts may occur.

I-15 Interchange at American Fork Main Street: Main Street Area (East of I-15) - With traffic now moved to the south half of Main Street, please remember lanes are narrowed and all left turns into the business areas between State Street and Kawakami Drive are to be made only at signalized intersections. Excavation work for retaining walls and installation of settlement drains for the north bridge of the new Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) continues. Crews will begin building retaining walls the last week in December.
I-15 Travel Lane Changes: The travel lanes along I-15 near the American Fork Main Street interchange are narrowed to 11 feet and the speed limit is reduced to 55 mph. Please remember, fines for speeding violations are doubled in construction zones.
Mill Pond Road Area in Lehi to American Fork Main St.: North Area - Crews are building the retaining walls and placing embankment. Trucks will be working well into the night. As trucks will be accessing this area, motorists should anticipate moderate travel delays. Flaggers will be posted to guide drivers through the work zone. This work will continue through mid-January.
Present to Dec. 31: The intersection of 900 West and Main Street remain closed Due to additional utility work underway within this area. Motorists will need to use 1020 West to access area homes, businesses and the park-and-ride lot. In addition to the 900 West closure, Dec. 21-23: parking stalls along the south side of the park-and-ride lot will also be closed while crews install pipe in the area.
South Area - Construction of the bridge support walls (abutments) is underway. Crews will install rebar, build forms and place the concrete walls during the next few weeks.
Mill Pond Road south of the intersection with 8020 North in Lehi (south of the UPRR tracks) will remain closed until late spring 2010. Residents traveling north and south in this area can use 200 South to 300 West in American Fork or 300 East to 700 South in Lehi as alternatives.
300 East to Mill Pond Area (Lehi): Installation of additional storm drain underneath 300 East has been rescheduled for the last week in December. Once work is underway, motorists should expect slight travel delays. Flaggers will be posted to guide motorists through the area. Please use caution as crews operating heavy equipment are working nearby.
500 West to 300 East Area (Lehi): Work on utility accesses continues.
1100 West to 500 West Area (Lehi): There is minimal work within this area.
1700 West to 1100 West Area (Lehi): Construction of the trail undercrossing for the future Dry Creek trail is underway. Crews will place the concrete walls by the end of December. Work on the culvert for Dry Creek continues.
2300 West to 1700 West Area (Lehi): Minimal work will be done in this area during the winter.
Redwood Road to 2300 West Area (Lehi/ Saratoga Springs): Jordan River Bridge to 2300 West - Installation of utility accesses and irrigation lines continues.
Jordan River Bridge Area - The temporary bridge over the Jordan River has been removed. Crews continue to build the forms and rebar framework for the river bridge. Placement of the concrete bridge deck has been rescheduled to January.
Embankment restoration along the Jordan River will be complete by the end of December. Construction of the Jordan River Parkway Trail has been rescheduled to begin in January.
The Jordan River Parkway Trail remains closed approximately one mile north of the trailhead at Wetlands Park in Saratoga Springs. Please do not attempt to cross through the work zone as there are large dump trucks driving through the area. Trail users can access the trail at Willow Park in Lehi. The trail will re-open in its new configuration next spring.
Redwood Road to Jordan River Area - Minimal work being performed within this area. Street lights will be installed along Pioneer Crossing between Redwood Road and the Jordan River the final week in December.

I-15 Interchange at American Fork Main Street: Main Street Area (East of I-15) - Motorists have been switched over to the south side of Main Street from U.S. 89 (State Street) to 1020 West in American Fork. Crews will finish installing sidewalk along the south side of Main Street.
Bridge demolition:Dec. 5-6: I-15 will be closed beginning at 10 p.m. Saturday until 9:30 a.m. Sunday while crews demolish the old interchange bridge at American Fork Main Street. Motorists will be diverted over the on- and off-ramps at the interchange. Please anticipate moderate to heavy travel delays between 10 p.m. and midnight.
Due to the demolition work, Main Street will be closed from Kawakami Drive to 1020 West from 9 p.m. Saturday to approximately 9:30 a.m. Sunday. Motorists will need to use State Street to Main Street in Lehi or 300 West to 200 South as alternative routes. Once the old bridge has been removed, crews will install settlement drains and begin building retaining walls for the north bridge.
Nightly lane restrictions on I-15:Dec. 9 - 11: I-15 will be restricted to two lanes (HOV and left lane) in each direction from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for bridge work. Motorists should anticipate moderate to heavy delays from 8 p.m. through midnight.

General Project Information

General Impacts south of SR-73
Due to cold weather conditions and utility delays, the contractor will need to come back to finalize some paving in the spring. Work in the spring should last only a few weeks and have limited impacts. Rocky Mountain Power continues to work south of SR-73 removing poles and placing new ones. As soon as their poles are moved, SR-68 crews plan to fill the holes, patch the surrounding area and make preparations for the removal of barrels so traffic can flow normally over the winter. Approved roadside mailboxes continue to be placed along the project. For safety reasons, federal regulations dictate that these new boxes be placed on breakaway posts. Please note, residents should not alter these boxes after they are installed. Any alterations are at risk of removal and replacement at the property owners’ expense. Crews continue on several clean up items and final adjustments throughout the project, including driveways, landscaping, fence, placing road signs and reflectors, and raising manholes to the level of the road. In order for crews to safely work on these items, some brief access interruptions and lane shifts may occur.

Pioneer Crossing Update: 11/30/09

I-15 Interchange at American Fork Main Street: Main Street Area (East of I-15) - Work continues on the traffic signal at Kawakami Drive. The new signal will be operational by Nov. 30.
Crews are placing the final concrete and asphalt segments leading up to the new interchange bridge. Traffic will be diverted onto the bridge Nov. 30. Once motorists have been switched onto the new bridge, crews will build new ramp connections from I-15 southbound and to I-15 northbound. Beginning Nov. 30 through Dec. 3, access to the on-ramp to I-15 northbound from the west side of the interchange will be restricted. Motorists needing to connect to I-15 northbound via the on-ramp from the west will need to use Mill Pond Road to Lehi Main Street as an alternative route.
Ramp closures:Dec. 2-3: The northbound on- and southbound-off ramp at I-15 will be closed at night from approximately 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2 to 7 a.m. the following morning. Motorists will need to use the I-15 interchanges at Lehi Main Street or 500 East in American Fork as alternative routes.

Redwood Road to 2300 West Area (Lehi/ Saratoga Springs): Jordan River Bridge to 2300 West - Installation of utility accesses, storm drain lines and landscaping will continue through mid-December.
Jordan River Bridge Area - Placement of forms and rebar framework for the river bridge continues. The concrete bridge deck will be placed within two weeks.
The 60-inch waterline is in place. Crews will begin restoring the embankments along the river and removing the temporary bridge crossing by mid-December.
The Jordan River Parkway Trail remains closed approximately one mile north of the trailhead at Wetlands Park in Saratoga Springs. Please do not attempt to cross through the work zone as there are large dump trucks driving through the area. Trail users can access the trail at Willow Park in Lehi. The trail will re-open in its new configuration next spring.
Redwood Road to Jordan River Area - Crews will install sprinkler lines in this area. Signal poles and street lights will be installed towards the middle of December. Sidewalk construction continues.

Crews are installing drainage basins and curb and gutter along the south side of Main Street as they prepare to divert traffic onto the south side of Main Street. The bridge transitions have been poured and crews are placing the final concrete and asphalt segments leading up to the new interchange bridge. Traffic will be diverted onto the bridge beginning Nov. 30. Once motorists have been switched onto the new bridge, Crews will build new ramp connections from I-15 southbound and to I-15 northbound. Each of these ramps will be closed during the night of Dec. 1.The old interchange bridge will be removed the first weekend in December (Dec. 5-6). Nov. 23. I-15 southbound will be restricted to three lanes in each direction (the Express Lanes will be closed) at the interchange to American Fork Main Street, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. for barrier work. Once the pipeline is installed, crews will remove the temporary bridge crossing and restore the embankments along the river. Rocky Mountain Power continues to work south of SR-73 removing poles and placing new ones. As soon as their poles are moved, SR-68 crews plan to fill the holes, patch the surrounding area and make preparations for the removal of barrels so traffic can flow normally over the winter.

General Impacts south of SR-73
Due to cold weather conditions and utility delays, the contractor will need to come back to finalize some paving in the spring. Work in the spring should last only a few weeks and have limited impacts. Crews will continue working on the sidewalk and concrete driveways in the southeast corner of the Crossroads intersection this week. Where possible, only one driveway at a time will be worked on in order to maintain access to the businesses in the area. Approved roadside mailboxes continue to be placed along the project. For safety reasons, federal regulations dictate that these new boxes be placed on breakaway posts. Please note, residents should not alter these boxes after they are installed. Any alterations are at risk of removal and replacement at the property owners’ expense. Crews continue on several clean up items and final adjustments throughout the project, including driveways, landscaping, fence, placing road signs and reflectors, and raising manholes to the level of the road. In order for crews to safely work on these items, some brief access interruptions and lane shifts may occur.

Pioneer Crossing Update: 11/16/09

I-15 Interchange at American Fork Main Street: Main Street Area (East of I-15) - Signal work continues at Kawakami Drive and at the new off-ramp from I-15 northbound. Foundations will be placed on the north side and the new signal will be operational by Dec. 1. Crews will install drainage basins and curb and gutter along the south side of Main Street. All traffic will be diverted onto the south side of Main Street beginning Nov. 30. At the new bridge, crews have placed concrete at the center and west transitions of the bridge. The transition on the east side of the bridge will be complete by the end of the week. The safety walls (parapets) will also be complete by the end of the week. During the next two weeks, crews will place the final concrete and asphalt segments leading up to the new interchange bridge. Traffic will be diverted onto the bridge beginning Nov. 30. The old interchange bridge will be removed the first weekend in December. Please use caution when exiting and entering the interstate and expect slight travel delays as trucks, heavy equipment and construction crews are working nearby. Flaggers are posted to guide motorists through the construction area.
I-15 Travel Lane Changes: The travel lanes along I-15 near the American Fork Main Street interchange have been narrowed to 11 feet and the speed limit is reduced to 55 mph. Please remember, fines for speeding violations are doubled in construction zones.
Mill Pond Road Area in Lehi to American Fork Main St.: North Area - Crews will begin building footings for the retaining wall for the north embankment of the Mill Pond Bridge. Beginning the week of Nov. 23, crews will build the retaining walls and place embankment. Trucks will be working well into the night. As trucks will be accessing this area, motorists should anticipate moderate travel delays. Flaggers will be posted to guide drivers through the work zone.
Between 900 and 1020 West in American Fork, crews will widen 80 North to improve traffic flow within this area. Please use caution as heavy equipment is working nearby.
South Area - Construction of the embankment and retaining walls for the new bridge is nearly complete. Crews are hauling in fill material and building the retaining walls. Motorists should expect moderate travel delays due to trucks accessing the work zone. Flaggers are posted to guide traffic through the area. This operation will be complete by December 4.

All traffic will be moved to the south side of Main Street around the end of November. In the area of the on-ramp to northbound I-15, crews are building retaining walls.
Nov. 9: The existing on-ramp to I-15 southbound will be closed permanently. A temporary on-ramp will be opened near the 900 West intersection. 900 West will be modified to allow right turns only. Motorists will be diverted to 1020 West for all left turns in and out of the area. Once traffic has been moved over to the south half of the road November 30, turning restrictions at 900 West will be removed. At the new bridge, crews are building the rebar framework for the remainder of the bridge deck. They are also placing concrete at the transition areas, building safety walls (parapets) and finishing the bridge deck. Please use caution when exiting and entering the interstate and expect slight travel delays as trucks, heavy equipment and construction crews are working nearby. Season: January 9th – March 6th. It’s an 8 game season. Games will be played on Saturdays at Saratoga Shores Elementary and Harvest Elementary, 5th – 6th grades will play at Westlake High School.
Practices: One night per week at Saratoga Shores Elementary, Harvest Elementary or Sage Hill Elementary.

Draft Night: December 10th at Westlake High.

5th & 6th grade ONLY. This is very important to attend.

5th grade is from 6-7 pm.
6th grade is from 7-8 pm.
EVERYONE will be placed on a team.
Arrive early to check in.
Parents are not to be in attendance due to seating restrictions.

Redwood Road Update: 10/30/09

Schedule Update: As those of you who travel south of SR-73 may have observed, power crews are now moving forward with the power pole relocations in this area. Once the poles are moved, crews plan to fill the holes and make preparations for the removal of barrels and for traffic to flow normally over the winter. Due to utility delays and dropping fall temperatures, however, the contractor will likely need to come back in the spring to place the final coat of asphalt. Work in the spring should be complete within three weeks time and have limited impacts. We’ll continue to keep you updated this fall until work is suspended and then notice you again once work is set to commence in the spring.

Segment 2 – Beginning south of Camp Williams and ending just south of the intersection at SR-73 in Saratoga Springs.
Crews will begin storm drain work on the southeast corner of the Crossroads. This work will take place in the shoulder with some intermittent traffic shifts.

Segment 1 – Beginning south of the intersection at SR-73 and ending at 400 S. in Saratoga Springs.
Due to cold weather conditions and utility delays, the contractor will need to come back to finalize some paving in the spring. See details above. Activities in Segment 1 this week include storm drain tie-ins, median work, and paving and will be ongoing for several more weeks. Paving activities are weather dependent and final paving is dependent on utility relocation progress. Rocky Mountain Power continues to be at work in this area removing poles and placing new ones for several more weeks.

General Impacts north of SR-73

Crews continue on several clean up items and final adjustments throughout the project, including driveways, landscaping, fence, placing road signs and reflectors, and raising manholes to the level of the road. In order for crews to safely work on these items, some brief access interruptions and lane shifts may occur.

Pioneer Crossing Update: 10/26/09

I-15 Interchange at American Fork Main Street: Main Street Area (East of I-15) - Crews are working on the signal and street pole foundations from Kawakami Drive to U.S. 89 (State Street).
Through November: Main Street remains restricted to one lane in each direction from State Street to I-15 while crews reconstruct the south half of Main Street. Motorists will be able to access businesses along the south side of Main Street at Kawakami Drive. Motorists should expect moderate to heavy travel delays.
In the area of the on-ramp to northbound I-15, crews are building retaining walls.
Crews continue to prepare and pave various segments of the roadway and the on- and off-ramps at the interchange. Motorists will be moved over to the new southbound on and northbound off-ramps by mid-November.
The bridge sections for the south half of the bridge are in place. Crews will build forms and rebar framework for the remainder of the bridge deck. They will also be working on safety walls (parapets) and the transition areas leading up to the bridge.
Please use caution when exiting and entering the interstate and expect slight travel delays as trucks, heavy equipment and construction crews are working nearby. Flaggers are posted to guide motorists through the construction area.
I-15 Travel Lane Changes: The travel lanes along I-15 near the American Fork Main Street interchange have been narrowed to 11 feet and the speed limit is reduced to 55 mph. Please remember, fines for speeding violations are doubled in construction zones.
Mill Pond Road Area in Lehi to American Fork Main St.: North Area - The shoulders along the south side of the new road have been paved. Crews are relocating utility lines and installing traffic signal conduit.
South Area - Utility work continues. Construction of the embankment and retaining walls for the new bridge is underway. Crews will haul in fill material and build the retaining walls for the next several weeks. Motorists should expect moderate travel delays due to these trucks accessing the work zone. Flaggers will be posted to guide traffic through the area. This operation will continue through mid-November.
Mill Pond Road south of the intersection with 8020 North in Lehi (south of the UPRR tracks) will remain closed until late spring 2010. Residents traveling north and south in this area can use 200 South to 300 West in American Fork or 300 East to 700 South in Lehi as alternatives.
300 East to Mill Pond Area (Lehi): Crews are preparing the area for the concrete pavement. The first segment of the road in this area will be paved the first week in November.
500 West to 300 East Area (Lehi): Installation of the 60-inch water line is complete. Construction of utility access boxes and other utility lines (culinary water, irrigation and storm drain) continues. Please use caution as large construction equipment is accessing the work area.
1100 West to 500 West Area (Lehi): Crews have installed the 60-inch water line under 1100 West and are moving east. Additional utility lines will be placed underneath the road.
Through Oct. 31: The closure of 1100 West has been extended through Oct. 31 for storm drain and signal conduit installation underneath the road. As 1700 West is also closed for reconstruction, motorists will need to use 500 West or 2300 West as alternative routes.
Road base is being placed in preparation for the concrete pavement between 1100 West and 500 West. Paving is scheduled for the first week in November. Please use caution as large trucks are accessing the work zone.
1700 West to 1100 West Area (Lehi): Construction crews will pave the 1700 West intersection and will also install curb, gutter and sidewalk in this same area.
Present to mid-Nov.: 1700 West is closed for reconstruction of the intersection. Motorists will be detoured to 2300 West as the alternative route. Pedestrians will be diverted around the work area. Flaggers will be posted to help pedestrians cross the work zone safely.
2300 West to 1700 West Area (Lehi): Construction of new sidewalks continues.
Redwood Road to 2300 West Area (Lehi/ Saratoga Springs): Jordan River Bridge to 2300 West - Crews continue to place sidewalk along the roadway through 2300 West.
Installation of utility accesses continues. Crews are also placing additional sections of concrete pavement just east of the Jordan River.
Jordan River Bridge Area - All girders have been placed and crews are installing braces (called diaphragms) in between each girder and will start building the forms and rebar framework during the next couple of weeks.
The Jordan River Parkway Trail remains closed approximately one mile north of the trailhead at Wetlands Park in Saratoga Springs. Please do not attempt to cross through the work zone as there are large dump trucks driving through the area. Trail users can access the trail at Willow Park in Lehi.
Redwood Road to Jordan River Area - Construction of sidewalks and the new traffic signal at the intersection with Redwood Road continues.
Motorists traveling on Redwood Road should anticipate intermittent travel delays due to heavy trucks accessing the work zone between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
General Project Information General work hours are between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For specific construction tasks there will be night work. Please use caution and slow down as you travel through the construction area as crews, large trucks and other heavy equipment are working nearby. For the safety of the public, we encourage all area residents to keep out of the construction area.
