Redwood Road Update: 10/30/09

Friday, October 30, 2009

Schedule Update: As those of you who travel south of SR-73 may have observed, power crews are now moving forward with the power pole relocations in this area. Once the poles are moved, crews plan to fill the holes and make preparations for the removal of barrels and for traffic to flow normally over the winter. Due to utility delays and dropping fall temperatures, however, the contractor will likely need to come back in the spring to place the final coat of asphalt. Work in the spring should be complete within three weeks time and have limited impacts. We’ll continue to keep you updated this fall until work is suspended and then notice you again once work is set to commence in the spring.

Segment 2 – Beginning south of Camp Williams and ending just south of the intersection at SR-73 in Saratoga Springs.
Crews will begin storm drain work on the southeast corner of the Crossroads. This work will take place in the shoulder with some intermittent traffic shifts.

Segment 1 – Beginning south of the intersection at SR-73 and ending at 400 S. in Saratoga Springs.
Due to cold weather conditions and utility delays, the contractor will need to come back to finalize some paving in the spring. See details above. Activities in Segment 1 this week include storm drain tie-ins, median work, and paving and will be ongoing for several more weeks. Paving activities are weather dependent and final paving is dependent on utility relocation progress. Rocky Mountain Power continues to be at work in this area removing poles and placing new ones for several more weeks.
Approved roadside mailboxes continue to be placed along the project. For safety reasons, federal regulations dictate that these new boxes be placed on breakaway posts. Please note, residents should not alter these boxes after they are installed. Any alterations are at risk of removal and replacement at the property owners’ expense.
Work on the Pioneer Crossing project continues in the vicinity of 400 N. in Saratoga Springs. This project also has separate flagging operations, and motorists should expect delays as a result.

UDOT Set to Move I-15 Bridge In American Fork: Expect Delays/Closures

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

UDOT Set to Move I-15 Bridge in American Fork into Place Bridge Move Designed to Minimize Impact on Freeway Motorists

AMERICAN FORK - The longest, heaviest concrete bridge ever moved, to date, using accelerated bridge construction techniques will slide across I-15 and into place near American Fork's Main Street interchange during the late night and early morning hours of October 16-19.
The first span of the new bridge, with its 192-foot long concrete girders, will begin moving from the "bridge farm" construction area southwest of the American Fork Main Street interchange about 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 16. It should be in its place just south of the existing bridge sometime during the early morning hours of Saturday, Oct. 17.
The second span will begin moving at about 10 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18 and should be in place during the early morning hours Monday, Oct. 19.
The two inside freeway lanes in the area will be closed at 8 p.m. each night - so that temporary median barriers can be removed. While the 2,178-ton bridge spans are moving across the freeway and into place, I-15 traffic will be diverted to the on- and off-ramps at American Fork Main Street beginning at 10 p.m. both Friday and Sunday nights.
For public safety reasons, the existing Main Street bridge will be closed over the top of the freeway and extending eastward to the junction with US-89 (State Street) beginning at 9 p.m. both nights. Main Street will re-open and traffic will be restored to I-15 as soon as each bridge span is safely in place. This schedule is subject to change.
Those who wish to watch the bridge move may do so from the existing Main Street bridge on Friday night and Saturday morning. Parking will be available at the park-and-ride lot southwest of the interchange. A flagger will be posted to help visitors enter the viewing area beginning at 9:30 p.m. Visitors will only be allowed to enter the viewing area where a flagger is present. Seating will not be provided. Please dress warmly.
This new bridge is the first of two bridges that will form a new diverging diamond interchange (DDI) at American Fork Main Street. This is the first such interchange in Utah and the second one in the United States (the first was opened recently in Springfield, Mo.).
The new interchange is part of two UDOT projects: the I-15 CORE project as well as Pioneer Crossing, a new five-lane thoroughfare connecting I-15 with Redwood Road in Saratoga Springs. Pioneer Crossing should be open for traffic in the late spring of 2010, while the DDI should be open sometime next summer.

Project Update: 10/8/09

Please join us for the SR-68 Ribbon Cutting Event on October 15 at 10 a.m.

Approved roadside mailboxes continue to be placed along the project. For safety reasons, federal regulations dictate that these new boxes be placed on breakaway posts. Please note, residents should not alter these boxes after they are installed. Any alterations are at risk of removal and replacement at the property owners’ expense.

General Impacts – Corridor-wide impacts from activities occurring along the entire stretch of SR-68.
Crews continue on several clean up items and final adjustments throughout the project, including driveways, landscaping, medians, placing road signs and reflectors, and raising manholes to the level of the road. In order for crews to safely work on these items, some brief access interruptions and lane shifts may occur.

Segment 4 - Beginning just south of the intersection at Bangerter Highway and ending at the south end of Bluffdale proper.
Work to reconfigure the medians at 14400 S. is now underway. A final layer of paving at the intersection is scheduled to be placed late this week. All paving activities are weather dependant. One lane in each direction will be open to traffic on SR-68 during this work in the immediate vicinity of the intersection.

Segment 3 - Beginning south of Bluffdale and ending just south of Camp Williams.
Fencing continues to be installed throughout this segment, including installation of features to complete the wildlife undercrossing systems. This work will occur outside of the roadway and should not impact traffic.

Segment 2 – Beginning south of Camp Williams and ending just south of the intersection at SR-73 in Saratoga Springs.
Crews will continue work on the southeast corner of the Crossroads. This work will take place in the shoulder with minimal traffic impacts.
Work is nearing completion at the Crossroads. Thank you for your patience at this high-traffic location during the reconstruction. Please note that the west leg of the intersection and continuing west on SR-73 is being improved by a separate project. The two projects are coordinating efforts at the intersection. For more information about this project, please contact their Public Information Team:

Segment 1 – Beginning south of the intersection at SR-73 and ending at 400 S. in Saratoga Springs.
Work continues south of SR-73. Activities in the area include storm drain tie-ins, median work, and paving and will be ongoing for several weeks.
Rocky Mountain Power will be working in this area removing poles for several weeks.
Work on the Pioneer Crossing project continues in the vicinity of 400 N. in Saratoga Springs. This project also has separate flagging operations, and motorists should expect delays as a result.

General Project Information
The new bike lanes have now been placed north of the Crossroads intersection! Bikers are welcome but should stay alert and ride safely as there are still areas of the project that will require shoulder closures while the final “clean up” items are completed.
The project is now substantially complete from Bangerter Highway to just north of the Crossroads intersection. The area from the Crossroads south to 400 S. in Saratoga Springs remains on schedule for completion in October 2009.

Pressurized Irrigation Reminder

Thursday, October 01, 2009

It's that time of year again! Those residents with Pressurized Irrigation please leave your individual shut-off valves in the "open" position to allow for proper drainage of the system. The City will be winterizing the system around October 15th. After that date, the system will be deactivated unitl spring. Each irrigation system must be completely drained to prevent damage to the system componets caused by water freezing inside the pipes, sprinklers, and valves. If you have any further questions, please contact the Public Works Department.

Calling All Triathletes!

Thursday, October 01, 2009

We would like to try something new for the 2010 Saratoga Splash--The City's first triathlon race! Because the City's annual 5K races have been so successful, we would like to organize a triathlon for our residents. In order to get a successful course planned and to have as much input as possible, we are requesting volunteers to serve on a triathlon committee. The idea is to get as many people involved as we can so that no one is burdened with too much of a time commitment. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please call Natasha Hodder at 801-766-5337. In addition, if you have a comment regarding the triathlon idea and/or you would like to request that the City continue with the 5K race in addition to the triathlon, please email Natasha at rnhodder@q.com.
