Utah National Guard Munition Investigation Openhouse

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

The Utah National Guard (UTNG) is launching an effort to investigate if old munitions may be present on lands that were once used for training at Camp Williams. These areas may now be located just outside the current installation boundary. Six areas are being investigated in conjunction with this effort, including one area located near Saratoga Springs. The 20-acre site is located along the southeastern border of the installation.
In conjunction with the start of this project, the UTNG will host an informational open house to inform local residents about the upcoming investigation and cleanup. The open house will be held October 22, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Fort Herriman Middle School located at 14058 Mirabella Drive, in Herriman. The meeting is an “Open House” format, meaning attendees are welcome to come at any time between 6 and 8 and stay as long as they would like. Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to receive more information about the investigation and cleanup and to learn about ways they can stay informed. Please contact Melissa Porter at 801-825-3570 if you have questions.

Redwood Road Update: 9/17/09

Thursday, September 17, 2009

The roadway is now substantially complete between Bangerter Highway and just north of SR-73! Hopefully you have been safely enjoying the newly opened lanes by observing the posted speed limits.

Please note that some final “clean up” items remain in this area, including work to reconfigure the medians at 14400 South (see details below). Work will continue in the Crossroads intersection and south to 400 South, so please continue to observe posted construction speed limits and drive carefully as crews work to complete this final segment.

General Impacts – Corridor-wide impacts from activities occurring along the entire stretch of SR-68.
Crews will be working on several clean up items throughout the project in coming weeks, including driveways, landscaping, placing road signs and reflectors, and raising manholes to the level of the road. In order for crews to safely work on these items, some brief access interruptions and lane shifts may occur. Approved roadside mailboxes are now being placed along the project. For safety reasons, federal regulations dictate that these new boxes be placed on breakaway posts. Please note, residents should not alter these boxes after they are installed. Any alterations are at risk of removal and replacement at the property owners’ expense. Crews will begin spreading seed on slopes and other areas throughout the project area this week.

Segment 4 - Beginning just south of the intersection at Bangerter Highway and ending at the south end of Bluffdale proper.
Crews will install a new fence at the Bluffdale Cemetery late this week or early next. This work will take place outside of the roadway and have minimal impact to traffic. Work to reconfigure the medians at 14400 S. will begin early next week and continue for about a week. One lane in each direction will be open to traffic on SR-68 during this work in the immediate vicinity of the intersection.

Segment 3 - Beginning south of Bluffdale and ending just south of Camp Williams.
Fencing continues to be installed throughout this segment. This work will occur outside of the roadway and should not impact traffic.

Segment 2 – Beginning south of Camp Williams and ending just south of the intersection at SR-73 in Saratoga Springs.
Crews will continue median installation at the Crossroads intersection this week. Please watch for traffic shifts in the north, south and east quadrants where work will begin this week. Work is nearing completion at the Crossroads, and crews will open lanes as it is safe to do so. Thank you for your patience at this high-traffic location during the re-construction. Please note that the west leg of the intersection and continuing west on SR-73 is being improved by a separate project. The two projects are coordinating efforts at the intersection. For more information about this project, please contact their Public Information Team:
Phone: 1-888-427-8585
Email: widen73@hotmail.com

Segment 1 – Beginning south of the intersection at SR-73 and ending at 400 S. in Saratoga Springs.
As greater focus now shifts to this segment, per the original construction schedule, paving is planned throughout this segment this coming week. Paving operations are weather and supply dependent. Work on the sound wall at Dalmore Meadows will continue this week. Work on the Pioneer Crossing project continues in the vicinity of 400 N. in Saratoga Springs. This project also has separate flagging operations, and motorists should expect delays as a result. If you have questions about the Pioneer Crossing project, please contact their Public Information Team directly:
Hotline: 877-222-3757
Email: access@utah.gov

General Project Information
The new bike lanes have now been placed north of the Crossroads intersection! Bikers are welcome but should stay alert and ride safely as there are still areas of the project that will require shoulder closures while the final “clean up” items are completed. The project is now substantially complete from Bangerter Highway to just north of the Crossroads intersection. The area from the Crossroads south to 400 S. in Saratoga Springs is scheduled for completion in October 2009.

Please note that due to weather, project conflicts, or equipment/supply issues, schedules are subject to change.
