With primary elections coming up on September 15 and general elections on November 3, it is important to note that a recent change in Utah law requires voters to show valid voter identification before they can vote.

The change in the law, which was sponsored by Rep. Bradley Daw, R-Orem, in the 2009 legislative session, requires identification from all voters. Before, the law required identification only in certain circumstances. The change also clarifies which forms of identification are valid. "We eliminated less reliable forms of identification," explains Daw.

Valid identification includes a photo ID issued by the state or federal government, such as a Utah driver license or United States passport; or two other forms of ID showing the voter's name and address, such as a current utility bill or bank statement.

Voters without valid identification may cast a provisional ballot and present valid identification to the county clerk within five business days of the election to have the ballot counted.

Paving operations continue throughout the project this week and next. Final paving has begun in Segment 4 and is moving south. Crews will continue placing base layers of asphalt in a few areas throughout the project ahead of the final layer.

**SPECIAL NOTE: Even as final pavement and striping are placed, traffic will generally continue to be limited to one lane in each direction to allow for finish work such as manhole raising and shoulder work to safely continue. Please continue to follow all traffic control and to observe the posted construction zone speed limit for everyone’s safety!

General Impacts – Corridor-wide impacts from activities occurring along the entire stretch of SR-68.
Weather and schedule permitting, paving operations will be underway at various locations throughout the project this week. Please watch for shifting traffic and brief access interruptions as this work takes place. Approved roadside mailboxes are now being placed along the project. For safety reasons, federal regulations dictate that these new boxes be placed on breakaway posts. Please note, residents should not alter these boxes after they are installed. Any alterations are at risk of removal and replacement at the property owners’ expense.

Segment 4 - Beginning just south of the intersection at Bangerter Highway and ending at the south end of Bluffdale proper.
Paving will continue in this area. As paving proceeds, residents may continue to experience brief access interruptions. Thanks for your continued patience. Crews will also be raising manholes throughout this segment, requiring traffic shifts.

Segment 3 - Beginning south of Bluffdale and ending just south of Camp Williams.
Day crews are scheduled to pave in this segment several days next week. Paving operations are weather dependent.

Segment 2 – Beginning south of Camp Williams and ending just south of the intersection at SR-73 in Saratoga Springs.
Crews plan to make a minor adjustment to a signal pole location at 10400 North late this week or early next. During this operation, the signal will be de-activated and traffic will be directed by flaggers for a brief time. Paving activities are planned throughout this segment. Please watch for traffic shifts in the area while paving takes place, particularly at the Crossroads intersection where work will be taking place on all four intersection legs.

Segment 1 – Beginning south of the intersection at SR-73 and ending at 400 S. in Saratoga Springs.
Base-layer paving is planned throughout this segment this coming week. Paving operations are weather and supply dependent. Work on the sound wall at Dalmore Meadows will continue this week. Work on the Pioneer Crossing project continues in the vicinity of 400 N. in Saratoga Springs. This project also has separate flagging operations, and motorists should expect delays as a result. In order to expedite work in the area, 400 N. in Saratoga Springs is scheduled to be closed at SR-68 next week, while excavation and paving activities are completed. Motorists should follow posted detours signs and use Center St. as an alternate route.

Night paving is scheduled primarily in non-residential areas. Weather and schedule permitting, daytime paving operations will be underway at various locations throughout the project this week. Please watch for shifting traffic and brief access interruptions as this work takes place.
Residents and businesses should expect brief, intermittent access interruptions as curb, gutter and sidewalk are installed and paving occurs across accesses. Notice will be given of longer-term impacts. Approved roadside mailboxes are being placed along the project in coming weeks. Concrete crews will continue installing curb, gutter, sidewalk and driveway approaches this week. Residents will experience brief access interruptions. Day crews are scheduled to pave in this segment several days next week.

Segment 3 - Beginning south of Bluffdale and ending just south of Camp Williams.
Both night and day crews are scheduled to pave in this segment several days next week. Working both shifts will expedite paving operations and limit impacts to peak traffic. Paving operations are weather dependent.

Segment 2 – Beginning south of Camp Williams and ending just south of the intersection at SR-73 in Saratoga Springs.
Traffic on SR-68 near the Crossroads intersection is scheduled to shift to the east late this week. Once traffic is shifted, crews will begin excavating the southwest quadrant of the intersection.
Excavation, utility work and paving are ongoing in the intersection of SR-73/SR-68. One through lane and one left turn lane will be maintained in all directions during construction at SR-73/SR-68. Note that the sidewalk on the southeast corner of the Crossroads intersection remains closed to ensure pedestrian safety. Please plan an alternate walking route.
