Redwood Road Update: 7/31/09
Friday, July 31, 2009
Early next week, the new signal at 14400 S. will be ready for activation. During this switch the intersection will be controlled by flaggers. Please watch for and follow flaggers’ directions as the new signal is activated and the old removed.
General Impacts – Corridor-wide impacts from activities occurring along the entire stretch of SR-68. Asphalt crews continue working at night in several areas of the project next week. The lower traffic volumes at night will allow larger stretches of asphalt to be placed at one time. Night paving is scheduled primarily in non-residential areas. Weather and schedule permitting, daytime paving operations will be underway at various locations throughout the project this week. Please watch for shifting traffic and brief access interruptions as this work takes place.
Residents and businesses should expect brief, intermittent access interruptions as curb, gutter and sidewalk are installed and paving occurs across accesses. Notice will be given of longer-term impacts. Approved roadside mailboxes are being placed along the project in coming weeks. For safety reasons, federal regulations dictate that these new boxes be placed on breakaway posts. Please note, residents should not alter these boxes after they are installed. Any alterations are at risk of removal and replacement at the property owners’ expense.
Segment 4 - Beginning just south of the intersection at Bangerter Highway and ending at the south end of Bluffdale proper.
Early next week, the upgraded signal at 14400 S. will be activated. The intersection will be directed by flaggers while the switch is made. Utility and earthwork will continue this week at Rose Creek. Work on this structure is scheduled to be complete late next week. Concrete crews are installing curb, gutter, sidewalk and driveway approaches this week. Residents will experience brief access interruptions.
Segment 3 - Beginning south of Bluffdale and ending just south of Camp Williams.
Both night and day crews are scheduled to pave in this segment several days next week. Working both shifts will expedite paving operations and limit impacts to peak traffic. Paving operations are weather dependent.Segment 2 – Beginning south of Camp Williams and ending just south of the intersection at SR-73 in Saratoga Springs.
Excavation, utility work and paving are ongoing in the intersection of SR-73/SR-68. One through lane and one left turn lane will be maintained in all directions during construction at SR-73/SR-68. Note that the sidewalk on the southeast corner of the Crossroads intersection remains closed to ensure pedestrian safety. Please plan an alternate walking route.

Redwood Road Update: 7/23/09
Thursday, July 23, 2009
Crews are paving today on the west side of the intersection at 14400 S. and plan to have that leg of the intersection reopened to traffic for the holiday. In coming weeks, a second layer of asphalt will need to be placed in this area, during which time access will again be limited. When more details about that closure become available they will be included in this weekly update.
At the completion of today’s construction activities, work will be suspended over the long weekend as crews observe the Pioneer Day holiday. Work will pick up again on Sunday night with nighttime paving operations. Please continue to observe posted safety measures and follow traffic control devices to ensure a safe, enjoyable holiday weekend for everyone.

Community Education Announcement
Community Education classes, through Utah Valley University (UVU), is coming to our community this fall!
These classes are designed to be fun (short-term, no test or term papers) and to enrich the lives of the members of our community. Most of the community education classes will be held in the evening at our new Westlake High School in Saratoga Springs (Redwood Road and Pony Expressway). In order to offer as many classes as possible, potential teachers are asked to contact Bud Poduska (Community Education Coordinator for the Saratoga Springs/Eagle Mountain/Lehi area):
Instructors do not have to be certified teachers, merely competent in their areas of expertise and enthusiastic about teaching others. In most cases, the classes will be held at Westlake High School once a week (Tues-Wed.-Thus.), evenings (Between the hours of 6 and 8:30), for 1 or 2 hours, over as many sessions as needed (Usually 3 to 6 to 8). The first fall classes will not begin until September 14th; the second set of classes will begin October 20th.
The wages will not be enough to support a family but should be sufficient to pay many of your utility bills. The following is a list of potential classes, however, if you have an area of expertise that you think others may be interested in learning, feel free to offer a proposal.
