Pioneer Crossing Project Update
Monday, June 15, 2009
Project update for the week of June 15, 2009.
I-15 Interchange at American Fork Main Street:Construction continues for retaining walls and embankments at the on-ramp to southbound I-15 and the off-ramp from northbound I-15. Please use caution when exiting and entering the interstate and expect slight travel delays as trucks, heavy equipment and construction crews are working nearby. Flaggers are posted to guide motorists through the construction area. Crews are assembling rebar structures for the underlying supports for the bridge columns. These structures will be placed toward the end of June. Crews are clearing an area south of the interchange to build two sections of the new interchange bridge, which will be moved into place fall 2009.
Construction of a temporary off-ramp from I-15 northbound is underway. Crews will be working in the shoulder area along I-15 northbound. Once this ramp is ready for traffic - probably toward the end of July -- the existing off-ramp will be closed for reconstruction. Beginning June 15, crews will install a 20-inch gas line from the area west of the Doug Smith dealership into the Alpine Valley Center (Target business area). June 17-18: Main Street, between I-15 and State Street will be restricted to one lane in each direction from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. while crews remove the raised median barrier in the area. Motorists should anticipate moderate travel delays.
I-15 Travel Lane Changes: The travel lanes along I-15 at the interchange to American Fork Main Street have been narrowed to 11 feet and shifted to the outside to allow crews to build the center pier for the new interchange bridge. The speed limit is reduced to 55 mph. These changes will be in effect 24 hours a day. Motorists should anticipate moderate travel delays.
Nightly Lane Closures - Present to July 31: As part of this work, the northbound and southbound I-15 express lanes and one general all purpose lane at the American Fork Main Street interchange will be closed as needed between the hours of 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday for bridge construction. Motorists should anticipate moderate travel delays during the closures.
Mill Pond Road Area:North Area - Crews continue to stabilize the soil for the new bridge in the area north of the railroad tracks. Construction of a detour road from I-15 to Mill Pond Road is underway and should be complete by mid-July. Toward the end of the week, crews will begin installing a 42-inch sewer line along Main Street west of I-15. Motorists should anticipate slight travel delays. Flaggers will be posted to guide traffic through the area. This work will continue through mid-July.
South Area - Pile driving operations south of the railroad are complete for now. Crews are installing settlement drains for the new bridge and placing new water lines.
Mill Pond Road south of the intersection of 8020 North in Lehi (south of the UPRR tracks) remains closed until December 2009. Area residents traveling north and south in this area can use 200 South to 300 West in American Fork or 300 East to 700 South in Lehi as alternative routes.
500 West to 300 East Area:Crews are clearing the construction area installing fencing, building a temporary construction access road and relocating utility lines. Motorists should anticipate intermittent delays through the end of June as trucks are entering and exiting the work zones. Flaggers will be posted to direct motorists though the area. Delays should be minimal.
1100 West to 500 West Area:Crews are building the temporary construction access road and installing temporary fencing. Residents should anticipate brief delays as heavy trucks are accessing the work area.
1700 West to 1100 West Area:Crews are installing irrigation lines and temporary fencing. Residents and motorists should use caution as heavy equipment is accessing the construction area. The closure of 1700 West has been postponed until July.
2300 West to 1700 West Area:Crews continue to install the 60-inch waterline, relocate gas lines and make other irrigation connections. Residents should expect some noise associated with heavy equipment working nearby and drainage pumps operating during the night.
Crews are also relocating property fences in this area.
Redwood Road to 2300 West Area:Construction of the Jordan River Bridge is underway. Crews are removing the excess settlement material from the bridge embankments. Pile driving operations at the west side of the Jordan River were delayed a week. Beginning June 18 through July 1, crews will drive pilings from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. Due to this work, residents near this area should anticipate some noise.
Installation of the 60-inch waterline continues and storm drain installation in this area is getting underway. Large dump trucks and other heavy equipment are accessing the project area at Redwood Road. Motorists traveling on Redwood Road should anticipate intermittent travel delays between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Jordan River Parkway Trail remains closed approximately one-mile north of the trailhead at Wetlands Park in Saratoga Springs. This segment will re-open fall 2009. Trail users can access the trail at Willow Park in Lehi.
General Project Information:General work hours are between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For specific construction tasks there will be night work. Please use caution and slow down as you travel through the construction area as crews, large trucks and other heavy equipment are working nearby. For the safety of the public, we encourage all area residents to keep out of the construction area.
