Thursday, March 26, 2009

On Monday March 30, to accommodate installation of power lines, Rocky Mountain Power will turn off power at Camp Williams and Jordan Narrows Road area residents. Please note, the signal light at Camp Williams will be out of power during this work and flaggers will be directing traffic at the intersection. With better weather, crews will work to clear the road of winter debris and dirt.
Residents and businesses should expect brief, intermittent access interruptions as utility and pipe work ramps up along the project. Prior notice will be given of longer-term impacts.
Delays along the route may increase slightly as flaggers allow additional haul trucks and equipment to enter and exit the work zone. Thanks for your continued patience.
Work on the canals in all segments is nearing completion and the system is on schedule to be ready for water in April.

Segment 4 - Beginning just south of the intersection at Bangerter Highway and ending at the south end of Bluffdale proper.
Concrete crews are at work in several areas of the segment this week pouring curb, gutter and sidewalk.Work on several utilities is ongoing in this segment. This Saturday March 28 traffic will be limited to one lane at a time in the area of 14650 S. between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. for irrigation ditch installation.

Beginning this Friday, March 27, and continuing into early next week, crews will be installing early warning lights for the new signal at Camp Williams. Flaggers will be on site to assist when the mast arm is installed above the travel lanes but, overall this activity should cause very minimal traffic impacts. Grading work is ongoing throughout this segment in preparation for asphalt.

Work will begin this week in the intersection of SR-73/SR-68. Traffic will be shifted and there will be one lane and a left turn lane in all directions. Please plan for significant delays in the area for the next several months. As part of the roadway widening, work on the access from SR-73 to the Chevron/Top Stop and Cyprus Credit Union is underway and will be ongoing for approximately one month. Crews will be pouring a concrete parkstrip through this area and will close half of this driveway at a time to perform the work. The other side will remain open to provide access to these businesses. Access may be limited at times. Motorists are advised to access these businesses via the north Chevron/Top Stop driveway or through the Checker parking lot on SR-68.This week crews will be bringing utility lines across Harvest Hills Blvd, Spring Hills Dr. and Hillcrest Dr. Please watch for intermittent access restrictions during this work and use alternate access points.

Segment 1 – Beginning south of the intersection at SR-73 and ending at 400 S. in Saratoga Springs.
Excavation work will begin on the west side of the road near Arctic Circle this week. Pipe crossings for the storm drain system will continue this week as weather allows. During this operation, traffic will be limited to one direction at a time under the direction of flaggers between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Thank you for your patience in this area. Work on the Pioneer Crossing project continues in the vicinity of 400 N. in Saratoga Springs. With the addition of another project in the area traffic has increased. Jordan River Parkway Trail Closure

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

Jordan River Parkway Trail Improvements:
As part of the Pioneer Crossing project, crews are building a pedestrian underpass to connect the Jordan River Parkway trail under a future Jordan River bridge. Safe and timely construction requires that UDOT close a half-mile section of the trail, approximately one mile north of Wetlands Park in Saratoga Springs. The trail will re-open fall 2009. During construction, users can access the trail at Willow Park just north of Lehi Main Street.

The new underpass will be 12 feet wide and 10 feet high with a concrete floor and internal lighting. It will provide a safe refuge for pedestrians and bikers during inclement weather. In the construction planning process, UDOT found that there are too many safety risks to keep the trail open or provide a detour route during construction. Construction work in this area will be constant and require a lot of heavy equipment in order to complete the road by fall 2009.

Utah Lake Festival

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

Utah Lake Festival Promotes Outdoor Fun and Stewardship
Highlights Include Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe Demonstrations, Free Food, Kids Activities, And A Nature Walking Tour
The fifth annual Utah Lake Festival will be held Saturday, June 6, 2009, from 10 am to 2 pm, at Utah Lake State Park. The purpose of the Festival is to offer Wasatch Front residents a chance to get outside and enjoy Utah Lake, experience its many recreational opportunities and offerings, and learn about the lake’s ecosystem, native species and the importance of stewardship.

The Festival, which is free, will offer an array of activities for everyone, including the opportunity to make and wear fish hats, free fishing, canoeing demonstrations, a sail boat regatta, games and activities for kids, music and boat tours. There will also be free hot dogs, snow cones, apples and water for Festival attendees. Park entrance is free during the Festival.

The June Sucker Recovery Implementation Program (JSRIP), a program designed to recover the endangered June sucker fish that lives only in Utah Lake, the Utah Lake Commission, a group comprised of local government officials and state agency leaders, the Utah Lake State Park and multiple municipalities surrounding Utah Lake are working together to put on this year’s Utah Lake Festival.

Historically, Utah Lake was used recreationally much more than it is today. More than 20 resorts once dotted the shoreline. Showboats, with live music and dancing, took people out for excursions to Bird Island, airplanes landed on sandy beaches to offer people rides, and for decades boat races were held as a Memorial Day mainstay in the Provo Harbor.

Although there are countless stories to be told about Utah Lake’s past, the Lake has much to offer today. Whether you visit for adventure or relaxation, this massive freshwater lake and its miles of shoreline are sure to please everyone.
