Redwood Road Update:1/29/09
Thursday, January 29, 2009

To accommodate the widened, improved intersection crews have begun excavating the hill on the northwest corner of 14400 S. and SR-68. Please watch for increased activity and use extra caution in this area.
Segment 4 - Beginning just south of the intersection at Bangerter Highway and ending at the south end of Bluffdale proper. Work on the Bluffdale City water line continues this week between 14400 S. and Bangerter Highway. This work should take place outside of the roadway and will not impact traffic. Crews began excavation activities on the hill near the northwest corner of 14400 S. and SR-68 today in preparation for installation of a decorative retaining wall. This wall will accommodate the newly widened roadway. Work on the irrigation canals throughout this segment will continue this week.
Segment 3 - Beginning south of Bluffdale and ending just south of Camp Williams. The precast structure for the wildlife crossing at Camp Williams is scheduled to be installed on Monday morning. There will be minimal impacts to traffic due to this work. Flaggers will be present to assist equipment on and off the roadway. Crews will continue importing fill this week to place in a ravine in this segment. This will require several truckloads of material to be brought in. Please watch for flaggers helping trucks on and off of the roadway. Storm drain pipe installation is continuing in several areas this week. Watch for lane shifts.
Segment 2 – Beginning south of Camp Williams and ending just south of the intersection at SR-73 in Saratoga Springs. Crews will continue installing pipe crossings in this segment this week. Some temporary lane shifts will be necessary to complete this work. Please watch for flaggers and use caution.
Segment 1 – Beginning south of the intersection at SR-73 and ending at 400 S. in Saratoga Springs. Pipe crossings will continue this week as weather allows. During this operation, traffic will be limited to one direction at a time under the direction of flaggers between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Due to limited width and to ensure everyone’s safety around the open trenches, traffic will run partially on unpaved surface through these areas. Thank you for your patience in this area.
General Project Information
Please remember that passing is strictly prohibited throughout the work zone. Recreational activities such as biking and jogging are strongly discouraged in the construction area due to the narrow lanes.
"Plunge" in for the Special Olympics
Wednesday, January 28, 2009
The Saratoga Springs Polar Plunge is now on the Utah Special Olympics web site
http://www.sout.org If you are daring enough to jump into freezing cold water, you can register on line and it will only cost you $25.00! Now, if you don’t want to jump in then I’ll jump for you. All you have to do is sponsor me or someone else. We only have raised $60.00 so far, but I know we can do better than that. Please pass the word around. Tell your neighbors, friends, relatives, and even the high school kids. The Special Olympics is really a great event. Also we are still looking for any volunteers to help on the day of the plunge, Feb 21st. So if you have some time to help with this great cause, please email me back. Thanks in advance.

Saratoga Outreach-Are You Prepared?
Thursday, January 22, 2009
“Were you stranded in your car February 13th, 2008, when the snow was coming down sideways? If you were, what would you always have handy in your car from now on? Most likely it would be water and a blanket or sleeping bag. This and other important emergency preparedness tips are discussed in our Saratoga Springs Neighborhood Outreach meetings. We also cover home security and personal safety issues. To become a Block Captain or to learn more, contact Don Markham at (801)420-6326 or

Saratoga Springs Polar Plunge
Tuesday, January 06, 2009
Residents,
On February 21st we are going to hold the 1st Annual Saratoga Springs Polar Plunge for the Special Olympics. What is a Polar Plunge? It is when CRAZY people pay (and are sponsored) to jump into a frozen Utah Lake! Our game plan has been drafted, but we are looking for some enthusiastic volunteers to help implement it. We have been advised our Polar Plunge Fund Raiser is going to be high lighted during this year’s Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run Conference. So if you, your spouse, your neighbors, or anyone else you can think of, has some time to donate to this great cause, please let me know.
Thx
