Redwood Road Update 8/22/08

Friday, August 22, 2008

Segment 4 - Beginning just south of the intersection at Bangerter Highway and ending at the south end of Bluffdale proper.
Utility work continues this week as crews lay conduit in the shoulder of the road.
Crews continue to lay asphalt in Segment 4 between 15000 South and 15700 South. This type of work will generate extra truck traffic on and off of the roadway in this area. Flaggers will be present to assist in directing traffic. At times delays are unavoidable, however, crews strive to minimize inconvenience to the traveling public whenever possible.
Lane shifts continue at the southern end of Bluffdale this week in order to accommodate work for utility crossings in the area.
To accommodate the widening of SR-68, UDOT has purchased five properties. The houses and other structures on these properties will be razed. This work will begin on some of these properties in the next week in the Bluffdale area. This demolition is being handled by professionals certified in residential demolition and removal.
The asphalt work throughout the project is dependent on oil supplies, which are currently limited within the region.

Segment 3 - Beginning south of Bluffdale and ending just south of Camp Williams.
Asphalt work is expected to continue through the beginning of next week between 15700 South and Camp Williams.

Segment 2 – Beginning south of Camp Williams and ending just south of the intersection at SR-73 in Saratoga Springs.
Construction crews will be laying roadbase in this area this week. This work can involve having to cross residential driveways. The project is committed to maintaining access to these driveways, so any interruption in access will be brief in duration.

Segment 1 – Beginning south of the intersection at SR-73 and ending at 400 S in Saratoga Springs.
Clearing and excavation work will continue in the areas south of SR-73 this week.

General Project Information
Excavation activities continues in areas where appropriate in preparation for laying roadbase.
Three wildlife undercrossings are being installed as a safety measure on SR-68. Concrete work will begin this week at the undercrossing site south of Camp Williams and at the site located on the southern end of Bluffdale. Lanes are shifted and narrow in these areas.
Passing is prohibited in all areas of the work zone.
Recreational activities such as biking and jogging are discouraged in the construction area due to the narrow lanes.
Please note that due to weather, project conflicts, or equipment/supply issues, schedules are subject to change.

Saratoga Springs Fire/EMS Fundraser

Thursday, August 14, 2008

The City of Saratoga Springs presently does not have a rescue boat to assist individuals who may be using the west shore of Utah Lake for recreational purposes. The City of Saratoga Springs response territory borders Utah Lake from the Loch Lomond subdivision to milepost 7 on SR 68. This is approximately 20 miles of shore line.
The nearest rescue efforts are based in Provo harbor. Depending on the response time of personnel to the harbor, and lake conditions the response to the west side of the lake could be lengthy.
We are asking for your help to raise $12,000 to purchase a boat, trailer, motor, and safety equipment. The boat would be housed at the fire station, and would be available for immediate response to the lake.
Donations can be sent to the address below, brought to the fire station at 995 West 1200 North, or we can come to your business or home. We appreciate your life saving investment!

Ramp Meters Begin Operation in Utah County

Thursday, August 07, 2008

Orem -The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will turn on a ramp meter system on Interstate 15 in Utah County beginning Tuesday, August 12, 2008. Ramps between Lehi and Orem will now have traffic signals which will control vehicles entering the I-15. Each lane on the ramp will have its own signal. The green light will be long enough to allow one vehicle to enter onto the freeway per lane and will alternate between the lanes. There will also be an electronic sign at each ramp entrance notifying drivers when the ramp meter is on.

The following is a list of ramps that will now have the meter system and will be in operation the morning of August 12th:

SR 92, (southbound only) Lehi
Main Street, Lehi
Pleasant Grove Boulevard, Pleasant Grove
1600 North, Orem
800 North, Orem
Center Street, Orem
University Parkway, Orem

Initially, the meters will be in operation on northbound ramps from 7 AM to 8:30 AM and from 4:30 PM to 6 PM. Meters on southbound ramps will be in operation from 4:30 PM to 6 PM. These times and locations are subject to change.

"During the morning and afternoon commute, groups of vehicles attempt to access I-15 at the same time, which slows down traffic. Ramp meters regulate how frequently vehicles access I-15 by creating gaps which allow motorists to merge safely without creating additional travel delays," said John Higgins, UDOT Project Manager.
The ramp meter system will improve the overall operation of the freeway system, improve safety and reduce overall vehicle emissions. This is the second ramp metering system in Utah and the first in Utah county.
